View/Edit Details Goal Strengths/Progress Concerns What needs to be adjusted or done differently in order to accomplish the stated goal?
1. Achieve AYP in Proficiency — Increase the academic proficiency of all students in English Language Arts (ELA) and Math with special attention to low-performing subgroups. Bi-Annual Review; Wooster continues to focus on ELA and Math remediation for cohort students with special emphasis on our lower-performing subgroups. ELT continues to allow time in our schedule to target students needing assistance to pass their Math, English, Reading and Writing high school proficiency exams. Additionally, during this school year an ELT committee (comprised of administration and teachers) was formed to increase the efficiency of ELT. Additionally, the school's Intervention Assistance Team (IAT) is working to intervene quickly with our struggling students. Wooster is very hopeful that we will make AYP in all areas for the 09-10 school year. However, due to the transiency of our population and the fact that our largest HSPE testing does not occur until March, we are not sure if we will indeed make AYP. Wooster is working to ensure the proper teachers are teaching our HSPE remedial courses during ELT and that our IAT is continually gathering data so we can pinpoint specific weaknesses that we must work on with our students.
2. Reduce the 9th Grade Retention Rate — Increase the number of 9th grade students who transition to 10th grade. Bi-Annual Review; Wooster continues to implement all action steps in reducing the number of credit-deficient 9th graders. At the 9-week grading period, data was analyzed (by teachers, administration, and the IAT) to determine why students were struggling (including attendance and behavior concerns). Freshman core teachers/teams, along with their assigned lead administrator, continue to look at data on a regular basis in order to make decisions about interventions. Wooster implemented a mandatory 9th grade tutoring center (after school) this year; the tutoring center is proving to be a valuable and successful intervention for many students. However, Wooster continually works with students and parents to ellicit support in ensuring our 9th graders are successful throughout their first year of high school; high transiency rates and parent involvement (or lack of) continue to be a concern. Throughout the current school year Wooster has continually gathered data on each action step for 9th grade retention. This data (and results adjustments/decisions) have been shared with the staff.
